Award Shows and the Fashion That Makes Them

Award season is upon us and it is our chance to celebrate talented actors, musicians, industry representatives, and fashion. Each celebrity dresses for the red carpet in hopes of making a statement—and staying off of the Worst Dressed List. Award shows are an opportunity to celebrate pop culture and the achievements of those we look up to. Given this, here are highlights of past award shows fashion, and upcoming nominees for 2022.

Zendaya

Valentino

Zendaya arrived at the Oscars in a bright yellow Valentino haute couture dress that featured cutouts and a strapless silhouette. The ensemble was perfectly balanced with a Bulgari diamond necklace averaging over $6 million.


H.E.R.

Dundas

H.E.R. wore a glitter embellished jumpsuit with a hooded cape. The border of the cape was inscribed with lyrics from her nominated song, “Fight For You.” Her outfit was inspired by Prince and included modern influences in her jewelry.


Emma Corrin

Miu Miu

This controversial outfit was sure to turn heads and incite chatter on social media. Emma Corrin wore a cap, fingerless gloves, and animal-like nails to accompany her strapless beige gown.


Mark Ronson

Celine

Mark Ronson’s classic white suit with contrasting black lapels brought an essence of old Hollywood to the 2019 Grammys. His buckled loafers added an edge to the strong shaping of the suit.


Mahershala Ali

Ermenegildo Zegna

Mahershala Ali and Ermenegildo Zegna took a classic suit silhouette and made it unique by wrapping the fabric around his waist. The otherwise all black outfit is broken up by a delicate silver necklace.


Will Smith

King Richard

Will Smith has been nominated for Best Actor for his role in the movie King Richard. King Richard follows the story of Venus and Serena Williams and their father, who Smith plays.


Jung Ho-yeon

Squid Game

Jung Ho-Yeon is nominated for two SAG Awards: Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for her role as Kang Sae-Byeok in Squid Game.


Doja Cat

Planet Her

The album, Planet Her, has been nominated for Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Pop Vocal Album.


Adele

30

After a long-awaited six years, Adele’s album 30 was released and is now up for the BRITs Mastercard Album of The Year. Many are hoping to see her take home another award.


Ryusuke Hamaguchi

“Drive My Car”

Ryusuke Hamaguchi has been nominated for Best Director due to his work in “Drive My Car.” The movie is a wonderful depiction of what it feels like to uncover past truths.
