Miami Art Basel 2021 Recap

Much like other celebrity gatherings, the events and attendees of Miami Art Basel are at the forefront of the fashion world. From catwalks to galleries, Art Basel is always a flurry of activity with a variety of shows and parties. Art Basel strives to support artists in communities by showcasing their work and helping many gain traction for their careers — and this year we were not disappointed with the unique creations of both international and local designers and artists.

Event Highlights

NY Times

Louis Vuitton Show

The show and the festive event were held under the unfortunate news of Virgil Abloh’s death the Sunday before. In remembrance, Louis Vuitton used drones to spell out “Virgil was here” as a tribute to the mark he had on the fashion world.

Chanel No.5 Anniversary Celebration

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of their iconic fragrance, Chanel No.5, Chanel went all out with their night-sky light show. They displayed not only the brand’s name, but lit up the darkness with drones forming the intertwined C's, the silhouette of CoCo Chanel, and the perfume bottle itself.

OMA Sculpture-Park

OMA continued to advertise for their astounding architectural feat of a seven-mile underwater park along the Miami reef. With the park opening later this year, the sculpture is meant to combat the effects of damage to the reefs of Miami.

Saint Laurent Dinner for Sho Shibuya

Saint Laurent kicked off the celebrations by hosting a dinner to show off the artwork of Sho Shibuya in a display of 55 different pieces depicting the sunrise. The 55 works reflected the 55th anniversary since Shibuya’s Paris shop opened. From Olivia Rodrigo to Zoë Kravitz — singers, models, and socialites were invited to partake in the event.

Dior Medallion Chair Exhibit

Artists from all over the world were invited to create their own depiction of Dior’s historical Medallion chair: a piece of furniture that encompasses the brand's simple, chic, and very french foundations of the brand. From simpler fabric-covered chairs to seats that seemed to be melting away, all of the designs were shown at Maimi Art Basel at their U.S. revelation.
