Paris Couture 2022 Street Style

Despite the nature of the event, couture shows have become more than just about the carefully crafted garments walking down the runway. No, part of the draw and enthusiasm comes from the attendee; both the high-profile and relatively obscure. Attendees wear the newest designer brands, and people who wish to participate on a day-to-day level combine high-low styles to create an amalgamation of looks. The outfits seen on the streets straddle the line between current trends and those which have yet to come. With the advent of so many fashion-minded people, there is always a diverse and unique crowd of enthusiasts testing the current boundaries of style.

Combining “it-trends” can sometimes lead to mistakes if they overpower each other. This, however, puts two pieces in a classic silhouette and gives off the perfect childlike whimsey. Electric blue is kick-starting the year per Pantone, and fuzz-rimmed glasses play into the ever-popular concept of nostalgia. The collaboration of clothes reflects the Y2k movement, but with enough sophisticated punchiness to set it apart.

Okay, so we haven’t quite gotten over the comfortable fits and baggy clothes we’ve been wearing the past 2 years. But, in silky, sheer, and beaded fabrics, this outfit is softly charming and sexy for those who want to mix the two.

When has business wear ever left us? Now, with the resurgence in the modification of classic pieces, we can use things like vests and button-downs to create a new genre of style.

Minimalism? Out. Distressed and deconstructed styles take over the camisoles and body suites of the world. In sheer fabrics or creative color-blocking, what was once a boring basic now becomes subversive and unique. Bonus points if it comes in a set.

The 60s have been appearing in various styles for the past several months. Colorful tights, baby doll dresses, and twiggy-inspired makeup grace the runways and street sides alike in droves. However, Americana androgyny certainly has a horse in the race, putting a retro spin on the average ripped jeans and cowboy boots. Adding more sophisticated touches like a neck scarf is the perfect way to take part in the trend while making it your own.

Trim in all sorts of materials and styles are appearing indiscriminately on shirts, pants, and outerwear. From making classic garments chicer to providing a fun and youthful zest, they add a certain level of extra detail to whatever outfit you’re wearing. Add some vibrant colors and you’re just about set for the year!

We are no strangers to quirky costume jewelry or extravagant accessories. Dainty pieces may have been all the rage, but bold and personal pieces now rock the market. Want to layer and make a statement? The more the better. With this style you can wear eyes on your ears and lips around your neck; all in the form of beautifully crafted jewelry.

Denim blue is forever a staple. With the move towards individuality and maximalism, redefining traditions like writing or painting on your clothes partners great with fun shoes and accessories. As for psychedelic prints? Yeah, still not over that moment.

The space age never truly left our imaginations, and now it’s back in the mainstream. Combine it with colorful screen-printed designs and we may see a new fashion “blast-off” quickly approaching.

For those who recently took up crochet or knitting, this fad is familiar and important. Knits never go out of style, but their trends certainly do. Now, chunky and creative knits are being produced for any and every item of clothing. Want a sweater? Perfect. A hat? Already ahead of you. Kitsch is the new cool when it comes to unique and personalized designs in this versatile textile.
