The Importance of Fit

When it comes down to wearing our favourite go-to outfits, or pulling out that fancy dress that’s been at the back of our wardrobes for months, ultimately, the way that piece of clothing fits determines the entire look.

You could have a beautiful embellished dress to wear for a special occasion, yet if it fits slightly too big on the waist, or too tight around the arms, the dynamic of the whole look dramatically changes. The comfort of an outfit is highly significant also, as if you do not feel comfortable, your confidence declines when wearing the outfit, and this immensely changes how we carry our clothing.

Understanding our body and its shape is key for establishing a perfectly-fit wardrobe. No figure is the same, and once we get our heads around the fact one brands size ‘small’ is another brands size ‘medium’, we can then get rid of the stigma behind sizing: the thought that ‘we can only be this size’ to wear a certain garment, can go.

When trying to find clothes that flatter our body shapes, it is key to know what exactly do we want to carry on our body. Someone’s style/fashion sense is predominantly the first thing that represents us; our personality and character. Once we have found our unique style - what we feel most comfortable in - our next focus is finding how to wear it.

Going to clothing stores, rather than shopping online, is something that is overlooked in the modern day. Grabbing pieces off the rails and trying them on there and then, is a great way to know that your buying exactly what suits you. When you try a piece of clothing on, you want to feel your comfiest and most confident - these would be the two things on my check list when wanting to buy new styles. If they do not fulfil these two requirements, then they are not meant to be.

Continuing on the focus of fit, one garment may be suited as a tight fit, whilst another may look better sitting loose on the body - each has it’s own purpose. Getting rid of the narrow-minded thought that ‘every piece of clothing must fit the same’, will open so many doors to new looks to express your personality. Taking that leap of trying something totally out of your normal wardrobe, can decide whether you want to go down that road of a new look, or not. Either way, exploring fashion is another way of finding your true self, and the true fit.
