2022 Fashion Week Street Style Wrap-Up

Fashion week is the time where new and creative looks shape upcoming fashion trends in the consumer market. However, we are not only talking about the runway and the fashion brands behind them, but the attendees’ outfits as well. The people who attend these shows during this glamorous event illustrate their appreciation for the craft by going all out in their attire. In turn, their creativity persuades others on how to dress, sharing influencing powers with the designers at fashion week. In celebration of these looks and as an ode to 2022, here are some of our favorite looks this year.

Our Favorite Looks

New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2022

The kitschy look on display demonstrates how maximalism is still going strong post-lockdown era. The use of bulky loafers, oversized coat, and chunky accessories playfully illustrates the year’s prevalent trend of exaggerated silhouettes. In addition, the heart motifs and feminine color scheme make the outfit soft while tying the look together despite the creative use of different fabrics.

We cannot get enough of maximalism, but paired with another trend of the year: knitwear! The vibrant colors of the trendy cardigan pop out, which compliments the attendee’s quirkier accessories in reference to the SpongeBob phone case and “666” rhinestone hair clip. Overall, the look is cheeky and results in a youthful display of quirkiness.

Y2K was one of the dominant influences this year for fashion and it shows! The puffer jacket, thick tinted sunglasses, and crocodile printed baguette bag are classic staples of the 2020s reimagining the 2000s style effortlessly. However, the futuristic elements cannot be ignored either. The modern silhouette of the puffer jacket and tech elements of the sunglasses and black faux leather dress are akin to the iconic fashion of The Matrix.

Celebrated singer, Rihanna, revealing her baby bump at the beginning of the year birthed (no pun intended) a new fashion trend that honors pregnant women’s sexuality. The use of a black color pattern, sheer dress with lace detailing, and PVC jacket and shoes not only showcases the baby bump in an inventive way, but also symbolizes how women who are expecting are still physically desirable despite what society says.

Tokyo Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2022

It seems as though everyone wanted to try their hand at the preppy aesthetic this year. The attendee’s look here is no different. Although maintaining classic components, like loafers, ties, and blazers, they are deconstructed in other to give a more modern and avant-grade spin to the classic style.

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2022

Coquette was one of the more notable fashion aesthetics that emerged this year for its uses of feminine imagery. The look demonstrates this perfectly through its use of embroidered flowers, butterfly accessories, and a big statement bow. The girlish colors and use of soft fabrics elevate the delicateness of the outfit to another level that encapsulates femineity.

The knee-length trench coat, silk tie, and classic white button-up of this look help form the basis of a preppy and sophisticated demeanor expected of the business style. Yet, the layered trench coats, contrast-stitch jeans, funky tie graphic, and cow print allows the look to be more modern and unique.

Leather was another staple to this year’s array of trends. Through leather pieces and a red-and-black color scheme, the look has a subtle mature vibe that emits sensuality. It also bridges the past and future as it uses past silhouettes, like the flare pants, and blends them with more modern pieces of today like the cropped jacket and balaclava.

Y2K strikes again! The chunky sunglasses, fur coat, and velvet Tory Burch bag are reminiscent of the chic and glamorous look of the 2000s style. To add on, the soft colors and fabrics not only make the look more put together, but makes it gentle and inviting to look at.

Seoul Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2022

Louis Vuitton’s past season influenced this particular businesswoman attire. The business-chic outfit consisting of a silk tie, blazer, and pinstripe pants plays homage to the opening look of the collection. However, the new use of the color orange clashes perfectly with the black tie and grey pants, to make a typical business look appear younger and more exciting.
