Los Angeles-based menswear brand SECOND/LAYER explores the unification of self in the context of style; like the outside and inside of the human body, they are meant to be together. The brand was established in 2013, the brothers and their friend were inspired by the skate-surf vibe of the 90’s, notably the Mexican American street culture.
Founders Joshua Willis, Jacob Willis and Ant De Padovane grew up in Southern California surrounded by a plethora of cultural influences, ultimately becoming the DNA of their brand. SECOND/LAYER is about the vibe, somewhere between Oldies and New Wave Romantic.
“I pull you on like a garment, first my arms and my head to follow, I push myself upwards and breathe you in.” In this context, their proposition is to create clothing that finds the balance of confident silhouette, smart fabrication and tamed tailoring as an extension of our own skin.
