Sweaters Style Guide

Sweaters have been a key staple in every person’s wardrobe since seemingly the beginning of time. From people living in frigid temperatures to sunny SoCal locals, sweaters are universally useful, cozy, and comfortable. We are giving you some tips of styling them, and then showing you some of our favorite sweaters out on the market (mostly unisex!) for everyone to enjoy!

How to style your sweater:

  1. Tucked into pants! This works great to create a cinched waist or to make sure you don’t look like you are drowning in your oversized sweater (especially with vintage, chunky ones). If you are wearing a more neutral sweater, then tucking it in is perfect to show off some statement pants.

  2. Layered with collared shirts or turtlenecks. For a classic, preppy look, make sure your collar peeks out of the top of your shirt. White-collared shirts go with any sweater on top. For more coziness, a turtleneck gives you warmth and another splash of color.

  3. With sweater vests, layer a mesh long sleeve, a t-shirt, and then finally the sweater vest on top! It creates a lot of depth and gives you the opportunity to have a lot of fun with your outfit.

  4. My personal favorite: put a dress on top of it! A summer dress is immediately transformed into a fall staple when a sweater is put under (or over) it. This works great when one is patterned and the other is more subdued.

Back Beat Co.

Organic Cotton Ellis Sweater

This collared sweater does double duty as a shirt and as an extra layer of warmth. Its slight crop makes it flattering, while the warm earth tones invoke the feeling of fall.

Saks Fifth Avenue

Sandro Amarillys Cropped Tweed Lurex Cardigan

This classic pattern is elevated by the modern shape of this cardigan. Denim detailing and a deep V-neck make it perfect for having a fun shirt peek out on top.

Depop

Vintage Chunky Knit Grandma Sweater

One of our favorite places to get vintage sweaters is secondhand shops, such as thrift stores, and websites like ThredUp and Depop. These locations are the best to get more unique finds that you’ll almost never see another person wearing. Plus, it’s better for the environment!

Depop

Richards Hand-Knit Sweater

This chunky hand-knit sweater is thick enough to be put on as a top layer but also stands out when layered under a jacket.

Everlane

No-Sweat Waffle Relaxed Crew

This super-cool sweater is made to keep you warm, but with one major bonus: no sweating! One problem everyone runs into: start moving around in the winter months and our sweaters have no airflow. This one is designed to keep you dry and protected from the chill.

Older Brother

Recycled Cashmere Sweater

Older Brother has made one of the softest sweaters out there, with a burnt orange tone that is neutral enough to go with anything, but also gives your outfit a pop of color! Their brand’s sustainability mission also led them to use recycled cashmere, which we always love.

Kow Tow

Unisex Fisherman Crew - Grass

Kow Tow’s unisex sweater is made from 100% organic cotton, and is made to look good and feel functional on everyone! Kow Tow is incredibly passionate about ethical work processes, sustainability, and high-quality pieces, meaning that they do not compromise on any part of the process behind your sweater!

Kow Tow

Ziggy Jumper

Another unisex jumper from Kow Tow! This zig-zag pattern inspired the fun name of this piece. The balloon sleeves that come in at the wrist create a playful silhouette, without being overwhelming to the wearer.
