Denim Tears
Brand Overview
Denim Tears is an artistic clothing label born in September of 2020. Denim Tears was founded by Tremaine Emory, a clothing designer who focuses on iconography. The brand goes far beyond apparel, with a much more meaningful background to the pieces that are put out. Everything about the designs and iconography is incredibly strategic, and it specifically focuses on raising social awareness around racism in America. Denim Tears has collaborated with both Levis and Converse, marking its success and range in the fashion world. The brand specializes in cotton-based clothing; Emory aims to reclaim the negativity and racist past that’s associated with cotton, turning it instead into art in his clothing. Pieces such as jeans with cotton wreaths are featured in the line, the cotton wreath being a common symbol that Emory incorporated into Denim Tears.
Designer Bio
Tremaine Emory, the founder of Denim Tears as well as the co-founder of No Vacancy Inn, is a jack of all trades. He was born in Atlanta, but he grew up in New York and spent some of his adult life in the U.K. Emory is well known for a variety of his feats, such as working with Kanye West, hosting A-list parties and events, and even collaborating with other designers such as Virgil Abloh. Emory aims to tell a story through his work, especially his work in Denim Tears. Despite Emory’s life of success, he remains incredibly humble. Most of his fashion design deals with using symbols and icons to tell stories. Denim Tears is no exception to this case. Making his mark with collaborations with Levi’s and Converse, he’s created some of the most unique and memorable work, as shown below.
