YEEZY Continues to Grow Gap Collection
Since he was a teenager, multi-platform creative Kanye West has always wanted to be a creative director for Gap and he made that dream come true in the heat of the pandemic. On June 26, 2020, Gap announced their 10-year partnership with collaboration with West’s brand YEEZY. Now, the collection has expanded with Balenciaga as an engineering partner. Their project, officially titled YEEZY Gap Engineered by Balenciaga, was released Feb. 23 at 9 a.m. in stores and online. West and Balenciaga’s creative director Demna planned on centering the newest collection around an “utilitarian design”. Demna appreciates West’s vision and ability to make him more versatile.
“There are very few people that I know, especially of Ye's caliber, who really understand my work so well. He makes me come out of my comfort zone and be a better designer. There's no ego when we collaborate, just a mutual drive to evolve and do something great and new,” Demna told Vogue,
