New York Fashion Week 2021 Street Style

As the world transitions to normalcy in this post-pandemic era, we’ve been given the privilege to witness the 2021 New York Fashion Week return to their live shows. As designers exhibit their spring/summer collections throughout the week, showgoers get to flaunt off their sensational street styles, arguably one of the most exciting aspects of attending the shows.

A range of fashion enthusiasts dresses to impress with this year’s streetwear themes spanning from maximalism to soft neutrals decorated with the current trends of deconstructed and cutout shirts, neon pops of color, and retro-reminiscent accessories.

Here are some of our favorite street looks of this September’s fashion week participants.

Our Favorite Looks

This eclectic look is bright and kitschy in the best way possible. The eye-catching print of the button-up, with its color-matched flowy, wide-leg trousers, is paired perfectly with the red cat-eye sunglasses and handbag. Despite the already present loudness, the cheetah print fur slides bring the whole outfit together.

Here we have Wisdom Kane sporting a retro-style look, with the square aviator sunglasses and pearl necklace as chic choices. In the middle, we see a golden-yellow pop of color on his button-up, along with a fitted cropped black denim jacket, chunky bedazzled buckle belt. Lastly, a classic pairing is made with black flare jeans and pointed boots, creating the perfect 70s inspired feel.

Digital content creator, BestDressed, contributes her grunge-inspired look to the amalgamation of fashion goers at this NYFW. The black leather blazer has been a staple since the 90s, along with the mesh top and the long tartan print skirt to make for an exciting combination. The beaded necklace and star pendant, with the strappy pointed heels and dark, smoky makeup, are great compliments to the intensity of the look.

Russell Westbrook breaks gender stereotypes in fashion by wearing a long, pleated skirt and diamond choker. This outfit is progressive, breathable, and embodies a modern combination with the fuzzy cardigan and lace-up combat boots.

Malvika Sheth’s outfit is nothing short of chic. The neutral-toned silk scarf and brown-beige asymmetric criss-cross flares are united with the velvet brown platform heels. This whole look is balanced out with the electric blue tank and matcha-colored puffy handbag as pops of color, creating a stylish, earthy colored look.

Mary Leest’s outfit should be the archetype of the “women in menswear” look. The oversized matching blazer and slacks look amazing over the mustard top as a pop of color. Everything looks normal until you notice the bottom of her slacks, which seem to be cuffed unconventionally. The vintage square sunglasses and Gucci Jackie mini bag are the perfect classic elements to compliment this outfit.

Shameer Khan layers a striped short-sleeved button-up over a black shirt and pairs it with high-waisted, long flare jeans. His choice of accessories is what makes this outfit stand out the most, however. The pointed boot is an ongoing trend that many showgoers partook in this year, and with the Christian Dior belt, layered necklaces, and round sunglasses, this whole look is a mix of modern and vintage elements.

Instantly, Yuki’s high-waisted, flowy, floral pants by Snidel draw your attention. It may even be mistaken for a long maxi skirt, making it functional and comfortable yet dressy. With the mock-neck sleeveless blouse and strappy kitten heels, the entire look is elegant and stylish.

Here we have Damon King in brown snap pants and a purple-orange vest, a color combination that pairs amazingly well. The accessories are signature pieces that create a funky, bold look- from the pearl string necklace to the crossbody Telfar bag and Margiela tabi sneakers.

Lisa Jokinen’s exceptionally free-spirited outfit invokes a sense of joviality. The bright colors and varying textures appear mismatched yet work amazingly well together. The crochet vest is a statement piece on its own, trendy though unique because of its material, and the long-sleeve lace top balances it out beautifully. The green-cropped, flowy pants paired with the tie-dye platform crocs radiate eccentrics.

Essentially, we can learn a lot from New York Fashion Week Street Style. It’s clear that vintage pieces aren’t going anywhere. Unsurprisingly, leather is still a go-to for a streetwear look whether it be in your pants or your jacket. Additionally, it seems that the trend of athleisure that came with quarantine still remains in small ways, like pairing a business look with sneakers. Finally, it seems that Prada is still prominent in the world of shoes and accessories as many of the participants in Fashion Week were clad in some variation of Prada boots or a Prada Cleo Bag.
